Explore Our Systems

Innovation at the Heart of Conservation

At Kakori, we believe conservation thrives when communities, nature, and innovation come together. Protecting landscapes is only the beginning — the systems we design ensure that people and wildlife can prosper side by side. From turning waste into opportunity, to transforming poachers into soccer champions, our work is built on bold, practical ideas that inspire lasting change.

⚽ One goal - zero poaching: The Conservation Soccer League

In one of Hwange’s most persistent poaching hotspots, Kakori pioneered a new kind of protection system: soccer. We created the Conservation Soccer League, giving young men an alternative to idle time in the villages — where poaching often took root. With teams, tournaments, and pride on the line, the community found new purpose on the field.

Since the league’s first kick-off, not a single poaching incident has been recorded in the area. The players themselves coined their motto: “Red Card to Poaching.” What began as a local experiment is now a model we believe can spread across landscapes where wildlife and communities need harmony.

🧱 From Bottles to Bricks: Building the Conservation Centre

Glass bottles once littered our landscape. Today, they form the foundation of our future. Kakori’s waste innovation turns discarded bottles into fine sand, which we combine with upcycled plastic aggregate, to produce strong, sustainable bricks.

These bricks are now building the Kakori Conservation Centre — a place where hundreds of conservation professionals will be trained, where ideas will be tested, and where solutions for tomorrow will emerge. What was once waste has become the very structure of hope and resilience.

🌿 Biophilic Design: Nature as Our Engineer

At the Kakori Conservation Hub, we look to nature for solutions. Our buildings are designed using biophilic principles— where architecture and ecology work as one.

  • Earthen pottery walls drip with water to create natural evaporative cooling.

  • Underground air venting uses the earth itself to regulate temperature.

  • Natural light and airflow reduce reliance on artificial energy.

This is not just design — it’s innovation that reduces costs, lowers carbon footprints, and shows how nature itself can guide human resilience.

More Systems in Action

The stories above are only the beginning. Kakori’s innovation extends into every corner of conservation:

  • Rewilding – Restoring giraffes and other keystone species to their rightful landscapes.

  • Waste Management & Upcycling – Turning community waste streams into opportunity and dignity.

  • Sustainable Land Use Models & Consultancy – Helping communities design resource plans that balance people, planet, and prosperity.

  • Innovative Resource Protection – From anti-poaching patrols to community agreements, we protect through both technology and trust.
