What we do

Kakori Conservation is more than a conservation organization — it is a coalition of people, science, and nature working together to restore balance, build resilience, and create hope. Our projects weave together wildlife protection, community empowerment, and innovative sustainability.

Kakori Centre for Innovation

More than buildings, the Centre is a living lab and learning space — a regenerative campus where scientists, artisans, storytellers and students converge. It's where satellite images meet soil samples. Where community elders mentor researchers. Where innovation is grounded in reality.

Includes:

  • Indoor/outdoor research stations

  • Boardroom, library, meeting spaces

  • Collaboration pods + biophilic design elemets

  • Thoughtful ergonomics designed to spark innovation

  • Novel indoor and outdoor auditoriums designed to spark innovation

Kakori Roots

Our indigenous nursery is where restoration begins — with roots in the soil and hearts in the community. From food forests to medicinal groves, Kakori Roots restores not only ecosystems but also nutrition, livelihoods and local identity.

  • Grows 50+ species of native trees

  • Hosts 20+ school groups annually

  • Provides income + sustenance for communities

  • Delivers education on reforestation, climate, and health

"Every tree planted is a promise kept — to our children, our soil, and our shared future."

Kakori Threads

What happens when resilience meets creativity? Discarded billboards become school bags. Single mothers become entrepreneurs. Kakori Threads is a story of courage stitched into every product — where waste is reborn, and women reclaim their future.

  • Employs survivors of gender-based violence

  • Trains women in stitching, design, and business

  • Upcycles 6.2+ tons of waste materials

  • Produces bags, pencil cases, aprons, travel gear

“From waste to wonder: every bag carries a story.”

“Reimagining Waste, Restoring Futures”

At Kakori, waste is not an ending—it’s the beginning of something new. We collect and process waste from 12 safari lodges, a hotel, and community clean-ups, ensuring nothing is left to harm the environment. But our work goes further. Through upcycling, discarded materials are given a second life as useful resources—plastic and glass becomes concrete aggregate to make living building blocks - providing a home for insects and birds. Crushed glass becomes sand for beadwork and artisanal crafts. Soda cans are up-cycled into crafts and tools. Consistent with our triple sustainability loop, these materials create a third life, powering community projects and livelihoods, while reducing impact and inspiring a circular economy in the Greater Hwange Landscape.

Kakori Clay

  • Harnessing local clay for pottery, bird feeders, bird nests and ornaments.

  • Experimenting with grog for pavers useful in sustainable building solutions.

  • Empowering artisans with new skills and micro-business opportunities.

Kakori Clay operates within a triple sustainability loop:

At Kakori, sustainability doesn’t stop at recycling — we give resources three lives instead of one. Waste is first removed from nature to protect biodiversity. It is then upcycled into useful products like eco-bricks, sand, or artisan materials. Finally, those products power community projects and livelihoods, creating lasting economic and social impact. This is our triple sustainability loop: nature protected, materials repurposed, communities empowered.
