🌱 Grow With Us
Every tree planted is more than a seedling — it is a step toward restored habitats, stronger communities, and a healthier planet.
Beneath an ancient grove of acacias, alongside the Kakori Centre at Hwange Safari Lodge, lies our beating heart: the Kakori Roots nursery. Here, thousands of seedlings take root — each one a story of renewal, resilience, and future legacy.
We currently nurture more than 10,000 young trees, carefully grown and guided through their early years before moving to our maturing facility. Every tree has a purpose — each falls into one of three groups that shape the landscapes and lives around us:
🌿 Trees of Restoration
- Species that rebuild ecosystems
- Nitrogen-fixing roots that enrich the soil
- Strong root systems to prevent erosion
- Shade, cover, and habitats that wildlife depend on
🍂 Trees of Nourishment
- Species that feed people and wildlife
- Marula, Bird Plum, Baobab — fruits that sustain communities
- Local harvests that improve nutrition and food security
🌳 Trees of Value
- Indigenous trees with oils and extracts used in pharmaceuticals and beauty products
- A living bridge between ancient cultural wisdom and modern science
- Traditional healers have long celebrated their healing power; our role is to protect, research, and pass on this heritage
🌍 Beyond the Nursery
Kakori Roots is more than seedlings — it’s a movement.
- We partner with 20 school environmental clubs, hosting field days that inspire young conservationists. Children take seedlings and seeds back to their villages, planting both knowledge and trees.
- With just 300 children, we’ve already influenced an area of 357 square kilometres.
- By 2026, we plan to establish micro-nurseries in each of the 20 schools, expanding our reach and ensuring reforestation grows community by community.
This simple, scalable model keeps attrition low while making reforestation part of everyday life.
♻️ Sustainability in Every Step
- Discarded plastic bottles become upcycled grow bags for seedlings
- Organic fertilizers and soils are created in our worm farms, using food waste from local kitchens
- Trees are strategically placed in communities — improving health, restoring land, and securing the future
