Peter Blinston is Executive Director of Painted Dog Conservation (PDC) in Zimbabwe, a model program demonstrating how wildlife conservation and community development can thrive together. Since arriving in 1997 to help establish PDC, Peter has dedicated his career to protecting one of Africa’s most endangered carnivores — the painted dog.
Under his leadership, PDC has grown into a multi-faceted program that combines anti-poaching units, wildlife monitoring, education, and community support. The Iganyana Children’s Bush Camp has introduced thousands of children to conservation, while PDC’s community gardens, boreholes, and health clinics have improved daily life in surrounding villages. An innovative crafts centre transforms snare wire into artworks, turning a conservation threat into income for local families.
Peter’s commitment has been recognized internationally. He co-authored the acclaimed book Painted Wolves: A Wild Dog’s Life with photographer Nick Dyer, and PDC has been featured in high-profile media, including the BBC series Dynasties.
By combining grassroots empowerment with international advocacy, Peter has built PDC into a globally respected initiative. His expertise ensures Kakori integrates conservation with tangible benefits for local communities — a model that resonates strongly with donors and partners.
